I had such an amazing time with the Motzell family for their extended family session at Kensington Metropark. You could just feel the unconditional love they have for one another and it definitely shows in these images! They are truly beautiful people inside and out and I am so happy I was able to document these memories for them.

Are you the fence about coordinating an extended family session?! The answer is YES!! I absolutely love when clients reach out about setting up professional photos of their extended family. It is such an honor for me to document special memories for families to cherish. It is so important to capture these whole group photos, and yet most of the time we just don’t think to get it done! Yes, individual family sessions are important, but how often do you get everyone you love in one photo to hang on your wall?! I know I am guilty myself! The other day I was just thinking about the fact that I am a photographer and I don’t have a single photo with my husband, parents, and brother and sister in law besides from our weddings 4 and 5 years ago! Can it be hard to coordinate? YES! But in the end is it totally 100% completely worth it!? ABSOLUTELY!

My suggestion for going about scheduling an extended family session would be to reach out far in advance and get a variety of dates to propose to your family members so that you can take multiple options back to them for coordinating. I have had many clients who purchase these sessions as a gift for their parents, grandparents, etcetera and they are so incredibly grateful. I mean, what better gift than a precious photo of all your loved ones that you can cherish for years to come?! I love to get shots of the whole group, as well as individual families and any other combinations of people that you would like to see in your photos!

So, if you’re thinking about booking an extended family session, it is definitely a great idea and TOTALLY worth it! Don’t get stressed about coordinating these photos, as we will work together to come up with a solution that fits the needs of you and all of your family members!

Andrea, These photos turned out so far beyond our expectations! With 4 wiggly ‘Littles’, the wind, and drastically falling temperatures, I expected one hot mess of a photo shoot and was praying for just ONE keeper. They all turned out so beautiful!!! A testament to your talent for sure. This was a Christmas gift from our adult children, the best gift ever. You were a joy to work with and we can’t thank you enough for these treasured memories.
    With gratitude,
    Brenda Motzell
